Cyber Safety

As we prepare to celebrate the upcoming holiday season, remember that cybercriminals never take a vacation. In fact, we typically see increased malicious activity - like phishing and scams - during this time of year. The California Department of Education (CDE) has been made aware of spear phishing email cyberattacks which target personnel at local educational agencies.

If you receive a suspicious email, report it directly to the Microsoft Threat Prevention Team by following the guidelines on our Information Technology Services website (lausd.org/phishing). Do not reply to the suspicious email. You can simply call or text message the sender to confirm whether the email is legitimate.

Lastly, don’t accept multi-factor authentication (MFA) alerts on your phone if you didn’t initiate the authentication request.  We’re aware of “fatigue attacks,” where cybercriminals initiate multiple MFA requests on a single user account, hoping the user simply clicks “accept” one time.
