ELAOC Community Wellness Resource Fair - May 5, 2025

This year's resource fair was held at the East Los Angeles Skills Center. Many students and community members participated in this exciting event, which featured live music performed by the students of Bravo High School. The staff, students, and alumni of ELAOC showcased traditional Mexican folkloric dances. Additionally, our school's career technical education department highlighted its various programs. Community-based organizations and employers were also present, providing valuable resources and opportunities for attendees.

Blood Drive @ Eastside - May, 1, 2025

Eastside Learning Center recently held an inspiring blood drive in partnership with the American Red Cross. Our dedicated students stepped up to make a difference by rolling up their sleeves and donating blood. Their willingness to help those in need truly showcases the spirit of community and compassion!

Stress and Wellbeing Student Workshop @ Eastside - April 30, 2025

Eastside Learning Center recently hosted a workshop for students, presented by the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health. This workshop focused on identifying the circumstances that can trigger stress and outlined effective strategies for stress management. Additionally, it provided participants with valuable resources to support their mental well-being.

Dental Assisting Graduates - March 28, 2025

Congratulations to the ELAOC Dental Assisting students on completing their program! Of the 17 students graduating from the program, eleven have secured jobs with pay rates ranging from $19 to $25 per hour. The remaining students are waiting for interviews and the outcome of their applications. The following Dental Assisting cohort begins in August 2025!

Pharmacy Technician and ESL Students Collaborate - February 26, 2025

ESL and CTE Students participated in a hands-on simulation that enhanced their communication and professional skills. Pharmacy Tech students gained experience in patient interactions, while ESL students practiced real-world pharmacy conversations, such as prescription drop-off, pick-up, and medication reconciliation.

Know Your Rights Webinar @ Eastside Learning Center - February 21, 2025

Students at the Eastside Learning Center recently participated in a "Know Your Rights" webinar facilitated by the LAUSD Academy in collaboration with Carecen. The webinar addressed recent updates, outlined specific scenarios, and emphasized the importance of developing a family plan while also providing guidance on how to avoid fraud. Our school is dedicated to serving as a valuable resource and support system for all students and families, irrespective of their immigration status.

Burlington English Student Workshop @ ELASC - February 21, 2025

Burlington English conducted a workshop for the students at ELASC, focusing on how to use their digital platform. Students learned how to access and navigate the platform on their personal devices. Following the student presentation, teachers received training on how to enhance student learning through the platform.

The "Coffee with the Principal" event was an important conversation focused on how LAUSD supports students and families in light of recent news about immigration raids. Our school is committed to providing support and resources for all students and families, regardless of their immigration status.

Financial Literacy Workshop @ Eastside Learning Center - February 6, 2025

Mr. Velazquez delivered a comprehensive workshop on financial literacy to the students at the Eastside Learning Center. The participants gained an understanding of the significance of credit scores and the concepts of assets and liabilities. Additionally, they explored methods to pursue higher education and vocational training without accumulating student debt and strategies for achieving financial security in retirement.

The Teacher Advisors at the Occupational Center organized a Winter Coat Giveaway for both morning and evening programs. Students were provided with gently used coats and jackets, allowing them to enjoy comfort and warmth during the current season.

This year's Professional Learning Community (PLC) for the ESL Department focuses on creating actionable plans to improve student learning outcomes.
